In addition to starch synthesis, other factors are also involved as
reflected by the variation in CO2 assimilation rates and chlorophyll
content for the various transgenic lines. Of the four transgenic lines,
TLUp2-1 had the lowest increase in CO2 assimilation rate over that
measured for TL46, attaining about 80% of WT response. This transgenic
line also contained the lowest content of chlorophyll whose
level was similar to TL46. Indeed, TLUp2-1 had thinner, narrower
leaves containing slightly serrated edges, which are morphologically
similar to TL46 leaves; whereas, the other transgenic lines
showed a WT leaf morphology.
