University Closes Investigation into Threatening Statement
Lindenwood University in St. Charles has closed an investigation into a threatening political statement posted Thursday in a student's dorm room and later widely disseminated on social media. The message was left for a female student by another female student. Investigators who conducted interviews said the matter was an ill-conceived attempt at humor.
Dr. Ryan Guffey, Vice President for student development, said that while the university stands firmly behind the universal tenants of free speech and ideological tolerance, statements or positions of hate, prejudice, or social injustice are totally unacceptable.
"Thankfully, the students involved in the incident have communicated and reconciled," Guffey said. "I encourage everyone in the Lindenwood community to deeply reflect upon the nature of the situation and consider ways to foster a positive and harmonious civil society.
