When observing the obtained transmission ratios, higher Ra values
were found in the group treated with acidified water (C) and in
the untreated control group (D), independently of the definition of
infection. This suggests a lower transmission of Salmonella in the
treated groups A and B when compared to groups C and D. Yet,
the Ra value in both group A and B – based on the detection of Salmonella
in faeces – was >1, indicating that there was still spread of
the infection during the study period.
