Woodward’s rules, named after Robert Burns Woodward and also known as Woodward–Fieser rules are several sets of empirically derived rules which attempt to predict the wavelength of the absorption maximum (max) in an UV–vis spectrum of a given compound. Absorption maximum of furaneol (2,5-dimethy-4-hydroxy-3(2H)-furanone): Maternal conjugated two dilute base 215 + 35(-OH) + 30(-OCR) + 12(-CH3) equal to 292 nm (Figs. 3A and 4).
