Also referred to as 'jogger's heel', plantar fasciitis is probably the most common cause of heel pain. This injury is the result of damage and inflammation to a band of tissue in the foot, the plantar fascia.
The pain caused by this injury often radiates into the arch of the foot. In this section we outline the symptoms and diagnosis, and present a comprehensive treatment and recovery plan, including rehabilitation exercises, taping and more.
Symptoms
• A gradual onset of pain under the heel which may radiate into the whole foot.
• Tenderness is usually felt under and on the inside of the heel.
• The pain is usually felt more severely first thing in the morning, and tends to ease as the foot warms up. The acute pain tends to reoccur return later in the day or following exercise.
• Stretching and flexing the heel and foot, specifically the plantar fascia, may be painful.
