After achieving steady conditions for the various loading rates
during phase I, II and III, inlet loading rates were quickly changed
during phase IV to study the adaptability of the microbial cultures
and the required times. These had been done also for repeatability
of the biofilter and to encounter the fluctuating conditions in the
practical application. Accordingly, changes were observed at the
outlet against those shock loads. Results obtained, were quite predictable.
In the phase IV on the day 115, the gas flow rate entering
the biofilter at 6 L min1 and the corresponding EBRT was
1.53 min. Due to daily change in inlet concentration, the loading
rate was varied from 39.27 to 47.241 g m3 h1.
