1. Neglecting heat-styled hair
“If you regularly use a hair dryer, styling iron or colour your hair, you need to use a hair mask once a week to keep your hair healthy.” That’s the advice of UK celebrity hairdresser Charles Worthington, and it’s something we should all heed. While a conditioner will detangle and add hydration, it can’t penetrate as deeply as a mask to strengthen and hydrate. The simplest way to use a mask is to apply it to dry hair, focusing on the middle and ends, then comb it through with your fingers and leave it for 20 minutes (wrap your hair in a warm towel for added benefit), then wash with your regular shampoo and conditioner.
