Among the total of 300 patients, 191 were physically
restrained during their ICU stay. In an effort
to identify the factors contributing to and the consequences
of use of physical restraints, characteristics
were compared between patients who were physically
restrained and patients who were not (Table 2).
The 2 groups did not differ significantly in age, sex,
APACHE II score, days of intubation, route of intubation,
or sedative status.
