SJW demonstrated antidepressant efficacy in 10 of 14 studies (71%) of mild-to-moderate MDD. The primary measure of efficacy in each positive study was change in HAM-D total score.Despite its known flaws, the HAM-D is still considered a clinically relevant tool for assessing antidepressant efficacy. the mean and median effect sizes for HAM-D change in these studies (0.64 and 0.48, respectively) were indicative of moderately large treatment effects, further supporting the relevance of these findings.
