Systemic inflammatory response
syndrome (SIRS) is a clinical syndrome
that manifests as an acute,
nonspecific illness. It’s the first
stage in the underlying progression of sepsis, which ultimately can lead
to organ failure. SIRS typically results
from surgery, trauma, myocardial
infarction, pancreatitis, or burn
injury. To meet SIRS criteria, patients
must have at least two of the
following
