Spent coffee grounds used in this study were supplied byEdiya
in Seoul,Korea.The grounds were dried at80 C for aperiod of
48 h,and the resulting moisture content was measure d atless than
1%. The dried samples were then stored atroom temperat ure in
sealed containers. The raw material has been analyzed for the su-
gar composition based on the standard LAP method consisting of
spent coffee grounds and found tocontain the following compo-
nents (Choi et al.,2012;Shenoy etal.,2011;Sluiter etal.,2011 ):
9 ±0.2%cellulose,1.2 ±0.3%arabinan,13.8 ±0.4%galactan,
23.4 ± 0.8%mannan,12.9 ±0.6%protein,29.8 ±0.8%lignin,
2.3 ± 0.3%ashes,2.6 ±0.4%acetyl groups,and 5.0 ±0.3%extrac-
tives. These values were the mean value ofduplicated samples of
spent coffee ground used in this study.
