The tender, the first under the two-month-old government of President Rodrigo Duterte, is part of the state's plans to import up to 1 million tonnes of rice to secure supply of the food staple through next year while prices are low.
Thailand will supply 100,000 tonnes of 25% broken rice at US$424.85 (about 14,700 baht) a tonne, while Vietnam will export the remaining 150,000 tonnes at the same price, according to officials at the Philippines' National Food Authority (NFA). That includes freight, insurance and other costs.
