Moringa oleifera is a tropical food plant with multiple medicinal uses. Various parts of this plant such as the leaves, roots, seed, bark, fruit, flowers and immature pods are used for the treatment of different ailments, particularly in South Asia. Many studies have reported various health benefits of Moringa leaves. One study reported that the methanol fractions of its leaf extract possess antiulcer activity and enhancement of healing process in chronic lesions. Another recent study reported that the water extracts of Moringa leaves had a significant cholesterol lowering action in the high fat diet rats. The purpose of our presentation is to report a study by Songpol Chivapat et al. investigating acute and chronic toxicity of the water extract of Moringa leaves in animal models.
