Howard had often heard his father tell stories about Uncle Ray , a trapper
who live in Canada. During most of the year , Uncle Ray lived in a cabin
deep in the forest , hunting animals whose fur was valuable. Howard thought
that would be a wonderful way to live. He couldn't wait until he was old
enough to visit his uncle and learn the secrets of successful trapping. Finally ,
as a Christmas gift, Howard's father bought him a ticket to Canada. The first
morning Howard went with Uncle Ray to check the traps. By afternoon
Howard was no longer certain he wanted to be a trapper. Each trap they came
