The interchromatin compartment forms network of channels and wider lacunas separating the chromatin masses (Rouquette et al., 2010). It harbors the nucleolus, and a range of characteristic fibrillo-granular structures called nuclear bodies (Dundr, 2012; Mao et al., 2011; Meldi and Brickner, 2011; Morimoto and Boerkoel, 2013) (Fig. 1).
