The data was collected from a 40 female participants who work in a handintensive
assembly operation. Their activity consisted o f picking and placement of small
parts by hand. This operation is a highly repetitive activity producing some 500 to 600
parts per hour. These individuals were all female. The data collection covered a fiveweek
period fi>r five days per week. The data appeared to be consistent during the
collection phase and Table 4.2 further indicates that the means do not appear to be too
different, as one would expect to obtain. There was some concern that the individuals
may have grown tired of the continued effort to complete the 36-item questionnaire over
a five-week period. However, during the data compilations, the last two weeks o f data
were deleted and basically no difference in relationships occurred. Therefore, the full five
weeks of data has been used to summarize the study.
