Conclusion
In summary, this method shows that all-trans-retinol, three
tocopherols and most of the major carotenoids and their isomers
in human plasma can be simultaneously separated and quantified
by the use of a small particle size (3 μm) polymeric C18 chromatography
column with isocratic elution. With this method, all
analytes of interest are well resolved including the geometric isomers
lutein and zeaxanthin and the different isomers of
lycopene. The sample preparation procedure in thismethod provides
excellent recoveries for all analytes, and the method is
rapid, sensitive, reliable, and suitable for large-scale studies.
