A fish farm needs water, fish-eggs and fish-food. The water can be in a building, like a big tank. This is the "tank". A big tank holds a hundred thousand (100,000) litres of water. It is the home of five hundred fish. They live and grow in the tank. Of course, the farmer must first buy very young fish; or fishes' eggs. Some farmers buy instead two good, strong parent-fish; a male and a female.
The male and the female live together in a small tank. The water is not very cold; it is just right for them. The farmer gives them the right temperature. He also puts air into the water. After a time, the female lays her eggs-many eggs. The farmer must move the parent-fish away from the eggs. The eggs stay in the small tank, and they soon grow into little fish. The farmer must then move them into a big tank. All these young fish are the same age and size. There are not any bigger fish in the tank. So the young ones live happily together.
They get the right food every day, and, the farmer gives them fresh water and air. After two or three months, they are ready for "the table". Are you sad about this story? Well, three months are a life for a fish. Only the biggest fishes have longer lives in the sea
