Conclusions
In summary, our results show that T. longibrachiatumhas a
broad application prospect on the inhibition and control of plant
nematodes, and it can be used as an effective bio-control agent for
the management ofM. incognitain selected crop species. There are
probably two main inhibition mechanisms involved in the control
ofM. incognita: (a) the direct decreases of the nematode numbers
through the parasitic and lethal effects ofT. longibrachiatumon the
second stage juveniles ofM. incognitaactivity, and (b) the increased
plant growth that enhances plant resistances toM. incognita
infection. The combination of both mechanisms is responsible for
T. longibrachiatum againstM. incognitain cucumber. There are
many issues that need to be addressed in the future studies, such as
the efficacy of the bio-control agent on other nematodes and
possible interactions with other plant species. Also, potential
influences on the safety to humans, animals and the environments
need to be defined and quantified.
