Students are required to take Japanese language as part of the JSP core curriculum. Japanese Language courses are intensive, and focus on accurate and culturally appropriate use of the language. All levels are offered, from beginner to advanced. Please see our Japanese Course Descriptions for course-specific details.
Students are placed into the appropriate course level through a placement test and an evaluation from their previous Japanese instructor. Classes meet four days a week for three hours a day for a semester total of 168 hours of instruction. Class sizes are small, with 4-12 students per class, allowing for strong student-teacher interaction.
Semester hours: 168
Credit: 8
Please note, beginning Japanese will only be held if a minimum of three beginning-level students attend the program. Beginning-level students (students with no Japanese ability) are encouraged to apply to the Fall semester.
