Rubber-based Adhesives
Most adhesive tapes have rubber-based adhesives and while they come in different colors sizes, they should be receptive to dye and powder suspension development methods. These adhesives should also respond to cyanoacrylate fuming followed by fluorescent dye staining, which also works on the smooth side of the tape. The decision process includes ascertaining whether to develop prints on-scene and, if so, which method to use. The specific method depends on the scene circumstances, the chemistry of the adhesive or the evidence itself and on an individual‟s comfort zone using a particular development technique. The color of the tape is also important. If the decision is to attempt to develop prints, powder suspensions are a common choice.
