The operation and management structure of Mitr Lao is similar to Mitr Phol’s operation in Thailand. Mitr Lao is organized by key functions: 1. Cane 2. Production and 3. Support. Top management is sent from Thailand as expatriate to oversee the operation of Mitr Lao. The rest of the organization is operated by local Lao workforce. The major differences between the Lao and Thai operation lie in the amount of human resources in the Cane Function. For Mitr Lao, the main job of the Cane Function is in the planting, managing, and harvesting of sugar cane. Basically, the job of the Cane Function is the same as cane farmers in Thailand – to plant and nurture them until they are mature for the next crushing season. Mitr Lao only produces raw sugar (VHP5 and DCR6) and transports by trucks back to Thailand to be shipped from Lam Chabang port to Europe. The sales and marketing part of the business are carried by Mitr Phol’s Marketing Function in Thailand. Mitr Lao’s is only responsible for sugar plantation and sugar production
