Stahl and Tung (2015) note that evidence from several meta studies indicates that “the size and direction of effect sizes for the relationship between cultural differences and IB outcomes are contingent on situational factors” (Stahl & Tung, 2015: 407). In a similar vein,Leung, Bhagat, Buchan, Erez, and Gibson (2005: 368) note, “instead of addressing whether or not national culture makes a difference, it is more useful to address the issue of how and when it makes a difference”. In short, there is now an emerging consensus that, in considering the impact of cultural difference, context matters.
