The origin of the game hurling or camogie is lost in Irish folklore and legend.
The Gaelic Athletic Association
has, since 1884, laid down that it is a team game of 15 players a side and 70 minutes per game.
The object is to drive a small hard leather ball between two posts shaped like a capital H.
The ball weighs approximately 100 g and is controlled and moved by a broad-bladed stick known as a hurley.
It is believed that a properly designed protective head gear would largely eliminate such facial and eye injuries.
