a large number of research methodologies have been identified, Galliers (1991) forexample listing fourteen, while Alavi and Carlson (1992), reported in Pervan (1994b),use a hierarchical taxonomy with three levels and eighteen categories. In Table 3.1below, we list the methodologies identified by Galliers (1991, p.149), indicatingwhether they typically conform to the positivist or interpretivist paradigms. Beforeintroducing the methodologies we use in this research, we summarise the keyfeatures of the key methodologies in the table, identifying their respective strengthsand weaknesses. In the following sections, we justify our choice of methodologiesand explain how they both operate and interoperate in our research.
