During this time and in the following weeks Jerry and I met on a one-to-one basis at least once a week. Our first conversations centered on ways to assist Jerry's organization for each class, but our topics broadened to include desired relations with peers, changes in behavior which might be conductive to such relationships, appropriate school attire, and the desirability of good enunciation. The emphasis was upon allowing Jerry to formulate what he felt the desired behavior might be and thinking with him about ways to help his behavior more closely approximate it. I tried at all times to respond positively to remarks indicating some acceptance of responsibility for his own actions.
