Along with its large carbohydrate availability, oil palm frond is the cheapest biomass ever reported which cost only at 19.4 $ per tonne as could be inferred from Table 4. Again, in order to promote bio-based production technology, the production cost has to be made competitive with the chemical industry. One of the major parameters in the production cost is the cost of the raw feedstock which is now under increasing importance due to the rising price of sugars. The use of waste biomass aims to replace the costly pure sugars to function as a carbon source. Oil palm fronds, in this case, can act perfectly as the cheapest carbon source in the biochemical industries
