Developed from Communicative Language Teaching, each of the other three approaches focuses on different aspects of the learning process and employs different characteristics. Content-based Instruction give importance to the input, or the content of the lesson while Task-based Language Teaching and Cooperative Language Learning focus on the instructional process. When selecting the instructional approach for their classrooms, teachers need to understand the underlying principles and the characteristics of each approach so they will be able to select the approach that suits with the contexts of the classroom and the needs of their students.
