1. Describe your family and your children's personalities:
Hello
I would first like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our family. I am a single parent with three wonderful children Derek (16) Andrew (13) and Cabrini (10). I am a working father with a rather busy schedule. I am quite sure that the immediate question than you have at this moment would be: why I am looking for an Au Pair?. Well I am a widower. My wife of almost twenty years a passed away from cancer in May of 2010. Going through this loss has been the most challenging event of my life. At the same time It has made me aware of how wonderful it is to be so bless with fantastic relationships friends and family. I can not think of a better to share these blessings than to open your home. I live in a wonderful neighborhood surrounded by neighbors who I gladly consider as friends. The closest family member is Jeanna?s younger sister Jeannique who lives in Dayton. Her other six sisters and parents are located in Kansas Oklahoma Colorado and her four brothers are located in Kansas Colorado and New Jersey. all of whom I am very close and very fond of. My parents live in Kansas and I have a younger brother in Arizona. We look forward to visiting with them throughout the year but especially during the children's summer break.
My family and I moved to Columbus in 2004 for my job. I am a physician with varying hours and feel the Au Pair program will fully meet our needs. I generally work five days a week but am ?on call? on various weekends. The ?on call? hours are long but result in time off to recover and free time with my children.
As for the children Derek is entering his junior year in high school . He is very busy with school and sport. He plays water polo and swims for his high school. Derek is quite independent and travels to and from school with his team mates. He plays the piano and takes lessons every Tuesday at home.
Andrew is in 8th grade. He is quiet reserve strong-will at times but extremely sweet (if you can emotionally connect with him). He is very bright and a talented piano player. Like Derek he also swims and takes piano lessons.
Cabrini is my youngest. She is in the 5rd grade. She probably will be the one our Au Pair will interact with the most. She is sweet and talkative. Like her brothers she is very smart and athletic. She loves to sing play the piano dance and draw horses. Her passion is horse back riding.
We look forward to normalcy in our lives and getting back to a regular routine. My children and I are looking forward to sharing our home and cultures with you. As well as hoping to learn of yours. We are excited fortunate and eager to have you in our daily lives. We hope you will enjoy your stay and feel welcome and comfortable as a member of our family.
Sincerely
Z. Chat Nguyen
2. Briefly describe the au pair's responsibilities/typical weekly schedule:
During the school year the Au Pair's job is to get the children up and ready for school. That includes making breakfast and drive them to the bus stop/school. After the children are gone the Au Pair can do household related chores i.e. tidying up the children's rooms kitchen do the laundry etc.. Most of the time the Au Pair is free between 10:00 a.m. To 3:00 pm. After school the younger children will be dropped off at the bus stop shortly after 3:00p and will need to be picked up. The Au Pair will supervise the children with home works piano practice or playing outside until I get home. Knowing how to prepare dinner and tidying up the kitchen after herself is a must.
3. What are your families' interests and weekend activities?
Unless there are scheduled activities related to school and sports we like to take it easy and go out to eat go to the movies or just hanging out at home and watch TV. The children usually like to read or play on the computer during this time.
4. Describe your home/community:
We live in Powell a suburb of Columbus. I believe Columbus is the 7th largest city in the U.S.. It has a wonder mix of cultural and educational venues. The Ohio State University is ranked in the top 5 largest university in the U.S. and by far the most notable name in the region. As far as our household is concerned I would say our home is very warm and welcoming. It has five bedrooms. Plenty of space for everyone.
