The conversion from the normal ferroelectric polymer to a ferroelectric relaxor is also reflected by molecular conformation changes in the polymer. In ferroelectric copolymers, a majority of the crystallite chains (∼75%for 68/32 composition) are in the polar all trans con-formation, leading to a high effective dipole moment. In contrast, the majority of the P(VDF-TrFE-CFE)terpolymer crystallite chains adopt non-polar conformations, as a result of the defects introduced by the bulky CFE ter-monomer units.
