As shown in Table 3 and Figure 5a, a/5b, b antibody 68.4
stained all typical stratified epithelia including epidermis,
cornea and the different gill epithelia as well as the pharyngeal
and rectal mucosa (for a comprehensive overview see Table 3),
but was completely negative on the typical simple epithelia such
as liver, stomach or intestine. Interestingly within the gill in
contrast to all other cells of the double-layered secondary
lamellar and the multilayered interlamellar epithelium antibody
68.4 did not stain the presumed chloride cells, that occur
more frequently towards the base of the secondary lamellae
