Besides the effect of NO2 from traffic, there were several pollutants sources effected on lichens which had been studied. Pinho et al. (2004) sampled foliose and fruticose lichen diversity and frequency in a region in southwest Portugal (Sines) with the large industrial facilities. A long-term study has been underway in the same area since 1970s using lichens as bioindicators to evaluate air quality. It was found in the areas where near to the industrial areas found the less lichen species the other areas. A relationship has been detected between the specific community lichen existing at a site and degrees of air pollution. A rich variety of lichen species exists more frequently in areas with clean air.
