Fuerstenau and Pradip (6) present an excellent review of
the hydroxamate collectors. Yoon and Hilderbrand (19) first
patented a successful kaolin flotation process based on hydroxamate
collectors. The hydroxamate collectors can be used effectively
at pH values above 6, at which the dispersion of clay
is readily achieved. The amounts of these reagents required for
flotation are considerably less than those typically used in the
conventional tall oil flotation process. Also, the hydroxamate
collectors possess frothing properties so that no frothers may be
necessary for flotation.
