In 2008 a mandated to reform Austrian schools began with 67 schools participating in the pilots schemes that will be completed in phases by 2018.
Tanja Westfall-Greiter was hired by the ministry of education to develop schemes called Learn designers. Teacher leaders with specific expertise in areas of curriculum and instructional development played a role in building the pilot schemes with her. This pilot scheme was designed to give positive change and foster learning environments for pupils.
In short the scheme was built to give students a positive learning environment, to gain more knowledge and have better communications with teachers.
