Castelli Idro Jacket: the lightest rain jacket ever made?
A super-light rain jacket from Castelli (123 grams) that can fit in half a pocket. The ultimate rain jacket for your kit?
Launching the new Castelli Idro Jacket the same day of the Maratona dles Dolomites was no coincidence. The new product from the Italian manufacturer, developed together with Gore is designed for riders riding through the very worse conditions.
The new Castelli Idro Jacket is presented as a product “that brings unprecedented levels of durable rain protection” and its Gore Tex technology is layered with an outer beading surface that eliminates the textile on the outer surface. The Italian manufacturer claims a super light weight of 123g for the size large and packability that means it will fit into half a jersey pocket.
The design of the Castelli Idro Jacket features also a claimed waterproof YKK Vislon zipper (a back zipper gives access to the jersey pockets as well) and elastic bindings placed on the cuffs and hems. Extra reflective elements should keep you visible in low light and the anatomic cut should work perfectly in race conditions.
The Castelli Idro Jacket fetures a waterproof front pocket and a rear one that gives you access to your jersey’s rear pockets
It looks like a great piece to complete your kit – particularly for the UK weather – but the downside might be the price. The Castelli Idro Jacket is priced at £230 (£1.8 a gram) and it will be available in the next two weeks.
