4-2. Effect of fish size and management zone on behavioural traits
We consistently found differences in FID between size classes of
coral trout among management zones, with the exception of no-entry zones in the southern region. The positive relationship between fish size and FID supports the theory of optimal fitness (Ydenberg and Dill 1986; Stankowich and Blumstein, 2005; Fleming and Bateman, 2015) and previous research on coral reef fishes (Gotanda et al., 2009; Januchowski-Hartley et al., 2011, 2015). Ohne study (i.e. Feary et al.2011) did not find an effect of fish size on FID, but this could have been due to the methodological approach of clustering fish size for most species, and a corresponding lack of resolution to examine the effect of fish size on FID.
