Contrary to what was expected, the study finds an inverse relationship between school
performance and computer use for doing homework. Concretely, students that use a
computer to do homework at home obtain two fewer points in math and three fewer points
in reading. Without more information that helps us to understand and unravel this finding,
we can hardly put forth a possible explanation as to the conditions and requirements that
children must have in order to do their school work with PC use. The appropriation of
contents and learning that occurs as a product of the work that an elementary school pupil
should do after attending class often requires adult mediation. This participation is a distant
reality and possibility for many parents and in homes when ICT are involved. It’s also true
that homework possibly requires the search for and selection of information, which
requires a guide, who is also needed to transfer this information to the required task.
