Dr. David Hillson is The Risk Doctor, an international risk management consultant and director of Risk Doctor & Partners. A 25-year veteran who has worked in over 40 countries and published eight major books and more than a hundred journal papers and articles on risk, he is recognised globally as a leading thinker and expert practitioner in risk management. Dr. Hillson is widely known for championing the inclusion of opportunity in the risk process and for developing a practical application of emotional literacy to support appropriate risk-taking.
David has been active for many years in the Project Management Institute (PMI®) and he received the PMI Distinguished Contribution Award for his work in developing risk management. He has made a significant contribution to the risk chapter of the PMI Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) in every edition since the year 2000, as well as co-authoring the PMI Practice Standard for Project Risk Management.
David has worked to build bridges between PMI and other professional associations, notably the UK Association for Project Management (APM) where he is an Honorary Fellow, and the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) of which he is also a Fellow. David was elected a Fellow of the UK Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce (RSA) to contribute to its Risk Commission. He is also a Chartered Manager and Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).
