The Corrections Department on Thursday confirmed lese majeste suspect Jirawong Watthanathewasilp, detained at the 11th Military Circle temporary prison, was alive
and healthy, denying a rumour that he had died while in custody. Department chief
Withaya Suriyawong refuted the rumour that Mr Jirawong, 39, had died in the prison
after two other suspects — Suriyan "Mor Yong" Sucharitpolwong, 53, and Pol Maj Prakrom Warunprapa, 44 who were detained there on lese majeste charges, died. Mr Withaya said Mr Jirawong was well and remained in the facility. He would be brought to the Bangkok Military
Court on Friday for a third detention. The police officer was found hanging in his cell
on Oct 23. Suriyan allegedly died of a blood infection while in custody on Saturday.
