In particular we are interested in examining the gender effect, if any, on leadership
behaviour practices. Although there have been extensive studies on leadership behaviour
world wide, the influences explaining such behaviour and the implications for effective
organisational leadership have not been investigated within theUK. The aimof this study
is to explore the various dimensions of the effects of gender, amongst other variables, on
leadership behaviour practices using data collected from over 400 managers from the UK.
The balance of this paper will briefly review the literature on influences on
leadership behaviours and discuss research studies investigating a multitude of effects
affecting the behaviours of leaders. After outlining details of the method adopted for
this study its results will be presented and discussed and their implications will be
explored. The paper closes with a summary and conclusions of the study.
