Pharmacies, or drugstores, in America are different to other places in the world. Most are part of a larger store selling pharmacyeveryday things. Americans often go to a pharmacy to buy small groceries, household items, or toiletries.
The most common pharmacy chains are CVS, Walgreens, and Rite Aid – but larger American chain stores like Walmart, Target, and Kmart will almost always have a pharmacy. You might even find one in a supermarket. Many of these stores will be open late or even 24 hours.
Prescription medication
Stronger medications that require a prescription from a doctor are kept behind the counter. A prescription is a specific request for treatment that comes straight from the doctor and is processed by a pharmacist. Filling a prescription means that a pharmacist packages the medication individually. The label will show the doctor’s name and the patient’s information and details of the medicine, like when it should be taken, how much, and whether there are any side effects.
