One of the four plants used by traditional healers in the Tanga
region of Tanzania for the treatment of HIV is P. kaurabassana
Baill (family Icacinaceae). This family consists of trees with
long-stemmed woody vines. The family is widespread and can
be found in India and the Philippines, while 30 species are
found mainly in the tropical regions of Africa.Six species are
endemic to East Africa, and four other species are found only in
