This chain of arguments leads to a final conclusion that seems valid so long as each argument in the chain seems valid. In contrast, horizontal arguments consist of multiple sets of syllogisms that imply the same conclusion independently. As Table 12.2 shows, horizontal arguments provide several different and unrelated reasons for believing in a target conclusion.
