Intel Microelectronics (Thailand), the local arm of processor maker Intel Corporation, has high hopes that its sixth-generation core processor will help revive the local computer market this year.
"We expect consumers will spend more on computers in the last quarter of this year, thanks to the government's stimulus packages that are aimed at improving the consumer confidence index," said Sontiya Nujeenseng, country manager of Intel Microelectronics (Thailand).
Consumer computers in Thailand account for up to 65% of total sales.
A series of new technologies rolling out in the market are also enhancing users' experience, he said.
Mr Sontiya said Intel expected the local computer market to grow by 3% to 2.55 million units this year.
The figure will be in line with the country's expected GDP in 2016.
Despite the local computer market seeing a contraction in the past two years due to poor consumer spending, the market looks promising this year with strong signs of a rebound in the fourth quarter thanks to a series of stimulus measures by the government.
