Ultimately,
the future of the Sundarban mangroves hinges upon
the efficiency of managing the limited freshwater
resources for meeting both human and environmental
needs, coupled with effective adaptive responses to
the added threats from climate change (Gopal and
Chauhan 2006). Changed hydrological extremes due
to climate change will have important implications
for the design of future hydraulic structures, floodplain
development, and water resource management
(Cunderlik and Simonovic 2005).
