D. Analytical Methodsfor Oil and Biodiesel
FFA in the oil and biodiesel samples was analyzed by the
method described in American Oil Chemist's Society (AOCS)
Aa 6-38 [22]. To determine FF A content in the sample, 4-5 g
of samples were dispersed in isopropanol (75 mL) and hexane
(15 mL) followed by titration against 0.25 N NaOH solution.
Saponification value (SV) was determined by standard method
[23]. Typically, 1 g sample was taken with 25 mL alcoholic
KOH solution, heated for I h in a steam bath with occasional
shaking and titrated the excess KOH with the 0.5 M HCI
solution.
IV. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
The kinematic viscosities of both the washed and unwashed
biodisel samples were within the recommended range of
between l.9-6.0 mm2/s set up by the ASTM standard. With a
reaction time of 180 min, it was initiated that, the kinematic
viscosity of the washed biodiesel was higher than the kinematic
viscosity of the unwashed biodiesel from the same sample at
40°C. The viscosities of the washed and unwashed biodiesel for
the eight samples were investigated with different reaction time
of 15 min to 240 min
