Lighting and technique
Ear y in the morning the sun was low, but still quite bright, coming from the right
of the camera. To create the warm tone in the image, David used an 81B warm-up
filter, combined with a couple of very o d glass filters. 'They were made in the 1940’s
and were originally designed for 8x10 cameras,' he explains. 'l had them cut down
and adapted for my 6x7s and 645s. The colours nave faded and are most likely
what they originally were.' David always uses a hand-held meter to take a reading
and then adjusts the exposure for filters, which reduce the amount of light reaching
the lens, if necessary.
