Lignocellulolytic enzyme activity profiles of MC3F were analyzed
in the crude extracellular enzymes and cell-bound enzyme
fractions from the consortium. The majorities of lignocellulolytic
activities were present in the extracellular enzyme fractions, while
only 10–20% of the activities were associated with cell-bound fractions
(Table 2). Lignocellulose degrading activities in the crude
supernatant, including endo-glucanase (CMCase), xylanase and -
glucanase reached maximum levels after 2 d of incubation at 0.24,
1.71 and 1.11 IU/mg, respectively (Fig. 4). After 2 d, a sharp decrease
in xylanase activity was observed, while CMCase and -glucanase
activities were relatively unchanged, indicating the stabilization of
the glucan specific enzymes along the incubation period.
