Women's social roles can also be enhanced through nutrition interventions in areas where
women primarily perform the role of preparing food for their families. Increases in women's
nutritional knowledge help ensure better preparation, preservation, handling and distribution of
foods. Increased capacity to handle their responsibilities can, in turn, enhance women's social
and economic status. Thus, ensuring schooling with effective nutrition interventions for
young girls can be one of the most important and effective means of improving women's
nutrition and health status because of the associated effects on health, fertility and social
development (18).
