BALIBASE (Benchmark Alignment Database) is a data resource
designed for multiple sequence alignment problems. The BALIBASE
database was constructed using both manual and computational
methods. Only core blocks, which are known to be structurally
aligned, are given in the reference alignments. BALIBASE is a standard
platform currently used for assessing the quality of multiple
alignment results. There are eight categories (REF1-8) in BALIBASE,
encompassing alignments of variable lengths, sequence identity,
and alignments with N/C terminal extensions or internal insertions.
Because REF6-8 have not been standardized, we selected
142 alignments from REF1-5 for test.
